Cycling

Get on your bike

Cycling to and from work is green, cheap and healthy. As part of the Trust‘s commitment to Green Transport initiatives it has been active in improving the cycle routes from New Greenham Park and across Greenham Common to those linking it with Newbury and Thatcham.

The existing tracks are passable but in partnership with West Berkshire Council the Trust is working to resurface the Newbury link to provide a level surface suitable for any bicycle type.

There is a direct route across the Common to Newbury from New Greenham Park, which passes in front of the former cruise missile silos at the GAMA site and then out on to the road network and associated cycle ways, at the junction of Greenham Road/Pinchington Lane/Burys Bank Road. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes to get to Newbury.

The showers at Liberty Hose (see The Enterprise Centre) can be used by anyone working on New Greenham Park.

Even if you only manage to cycle on one day per week that is a 20% reduction in traffic, congestion and emission of greenhouse gases.

You can make a difference.

Greenham Common Trust has made a selection of bicycles available for anyone working at New Greenham Park who wants to travel within the business park only. Bikes are available from the Enterprise Centre and from Venture West - simply identify yourself to the receptionist, sign for the bike, then return and sign the bike back in when you have finished with it. It absolutely free!

Cycling at New Greenham Park

All bikes are issued with helmets and padlocks, and the Trust strongly advises that the helmet is worn. All bikes must be padlocked when unattended even for the shortest stop. Please do not borrow a bike unless you are confident of riding it safely. For more information call the Trust on 01635 817444.
