The Slater Centre at New Grteenham Park

New Greenham Park is celebrating the completion of an exciting project that has been in the planning for over two years: The Slater Centre, a £2m purpose built building, which provides training, administration, workshop and storage space for several local voluntary organisations. These include the MENCAP “Link-Up” project, which provides training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, and the Newbury Community Resource Centre.

The Slater Centre has been funded by Greenham Common Trust, owner of New Greenham Park, which is particularly keen to see voluntary groups working together to share information, resources and in the case of the Slater Centre – infrastructure. The Trust hopes this will develop collaboration between the groups.

“It is hoped that the young people training with Link-Up at the Slater Centre will also have opportunities to work with the Community Resource Centre as a further step towards working in the open labour market” said Stuart Tagg, chief executive of Greenham Common Trust.

“The original aim of the Slater Centre was to bring various organisations within the voluntary sector together to encourage cooperation and mutual support. The centre is also bringing financial benefits to the organisations through the sharing of resources. This will allow thousands of pounds to be diverted to frontline services.” he added.
